In this 4-day tour, you will visit all three historical monuments of Turkmenistan which have been added in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Kunya-Urgench is a large archaeological complex which is located on the left bank of the old gulch of the Amu Darya in the north of Turkmenistan. It was called Urgench in the past and now it’s a protected area with many ruins and monuments. The unique ancient architecture of Kunya-Urgench is a fine example of this, as it was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2005. Old Nisa At a UNESCO Special Committee meeting in Christchurch, New Zealand, in 2007, the ancient fortresses of Nisa were included in the World Heritage List as Outstanding Universal Value. The fortresses of Nisa were included in the UNESCO List not only as cultural monuments but also as objects of the “cultural landscapes” group. Merv Underneath the surface layer of the landscape, which now appears to have been abandoned, lies one of the world’s great archeological sites. The Greeks, Parthians, and later the Sassanids turned Merv into an important administrative, military, and commercial center. In 1999, Ancient Merv was declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO.
